Good News it can be fixed
Bad News is the bulbs are often a couple of hundred dollars plus an hour or two labor to replace.
Not so bad news is that these days service shops are looking for work because the price point often encourages consumers to simply walk away and replace with a flat screen.
Call around for quotes and get a free in home / no obligation estimate. You will find techs much more willing to negotiate with you for a flat repair fee including time / materials / labor.
Set a budget for yourself, if it's larger than 50" and at least 1080i than spend up to $300 or so, if it's smaller then consider a 32" name brand in the $400 range, NEW.
Do Not allow them to come to the house and say, well it's normally a $45 visit but IF you have it repaired through me then it's free. Just say no.

David Letterman's assistant, Stephanie Birkitt, seems like she'd be the perfect girlfriend. Robert Joe Halderman, a producer of CBS’s “48 Hours,” was arrested Thursday for an alleged extortion plot to expose David Letterman’s multiple affairs with women on his staff. (View photo of Halderman below)
The scandal was revealed Thursday night, when Letterman told his studio audience he was being blackmailed for $2 million by someone who threatened to expose his sexual relationships with female employees.
The Late Show host contacted the Manhattan District Attorney’s Special Prosecution Bureau, and was told to cut a phony check to the alleged extortionist.
According to to sources, Halderman, 51, lived with one of the women Letterman was involved with. Halderman needed money, and decided to target the talk show host.
The affair happened before Letterman’s son was born, although he was living with longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko, whom he married in March.
