pcgs vs ngc.....PLEASE ANSWER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1?
i was looking at the pcgs coin price guide and the ngc coin price guide the other day,and saw that pcgs graded coins were worth much more than ngc graded coins.....a 2001 buffalo graded ms70 by ngc is worth merely $500, however a the pcgs graded one is worth about $1,000.......why is this......i thought pcgs and ngc were equal grading companies?if this is the case why are pcgs graded coins worth more than ngc graded coins...???????????????????????.....PLEASE ANSWER !!!!!!!!!!!
My understanding is that PCGS and NGC are equivalent in the ratings they give, so if a coin is rated ms70 by one it will probably also be rated ms70 by the other. However, the prices they report may not be equivalent. Prices could be reported a number of different ways, including
1. the average amount paid by a dealer to by the coin
2. the average amount paid to buy a coin from a dealer
3. the most recent price reported at an auction
Check the specific price guides you have to see if they tell what prices are being shown. Also make sure they are for the same year, since prices change as supply and demand change.

I do not collect coins and do not have enough first-hand knowledge to give you any more details. I do collect paper currency and have run into the same types of issues.
