I have a 1987 US 1 ounce silver coin, But it's not a silver eagle?????? HELP?
I have a 1987 US 1 ounce silver coin. The front looks like a silver eagle and the back looks like the design of a walking liberty half (the eagle). The back says .999 fine silver and 1 troy ounce. It is not a silver eagle and I have searched the computer trying to find someone with one so I could learn more, but I can't find one anywhere. Can anyone help me identify the coin and it's worth?
It sounds a lot like a silver "round". These were privately made bullion coins that sold for a little over melt value when they were made. Since silver is around $18 per ounce right now someone might offer you $15 or $16 dollars for it. It is not a collector coin but strictly a bullion piece.
